У российского императора Николая II была татуировка.

Во время своего восточного путешествия в 1891 году будущий российский император сделал себе татуировку — черного дракона, который считается символом могущества, силы и мудрости. На Востоке дракона ассоциировали с божественной мощью, считали его защитником и спасителем.

В начале XX века (и задолго до этого времени), татуировки у представителей аристократии, не говоря уже и у самого царя, были чем-то из разряда вон выходящего.

Но, учитывая то, что Государь, на предоставленных фотографиях, заворачивал рукав именно на правой руке, где была сделана наколка (хоть и не на всех фото он с ракеткой, что говорит о том, что он думал не только о удобстве во время игры), говорит о том, что он этого, во-первых, не стеснялся, а, во-вторых, явно хотел, чтобы её оценили.

Такой же дракон был на теле его дальнего родственника греческого принца Георга. Николай и Георг вместе путешествовали по Востоку. Георг сделал своего дракона у японского мастера Хоре Кио. Можно предположить, что у того же мастера татуировался и Николай. Для Георга татуировка была давней мечтой. Татуировку носил его родственник король Эдуард VII Английский. Тот сделал себе тату в виде так называемого Иерусалимского креста, или Креста крестоносцев, когда посещал Иерусалим в 1862 году. Похоже, царственные особы наносили себе тату, которые напоминали им о важных путешествиях.
